M. Samuel Smith, III, EA 1961 - 2010 Sam founded Smith Financial Services with his wife, Karen nearly 20 years ago.  He was an inspiration to all who knew him, always encouraging people to be the best they could be, and always willing to help others.  He was a devoted husband and father, an ethical businessman, an admirable employer and a passionate mentor.  His spirit and devotion to his clients and his staff will always be a part of Smith Financial Services.
Karen Smith Owner & President Karen has a BS degree from Shepherd College (now Shepherd University).  She and her late husband, Sam started Smith Financial Services in 1992.   She has three lovely daughters, two of which are in college and one recent college graduate.  In her spare time, Karen enjoys knitting and relaxing on the front porch of their log home. She also enjoys traveling and visiting the National Parks. karens@sfs-md.com
Steven E. Biggs, CPA Senior Tax Advisor Steve is a Frederick native who obtained his Associates degree in Accounting at Frederick Community College (FCC) and went on to earn his BS in Accounting at Mount St. Mary's University.  He is a licensed CPA in Maryland and has 35 years of accounting and tax experience.  Steve teaches part-time at FCC in addition to his full-time work at Smith Financial Services.  He has been married for 37 years, has three children, and two grandchildren.  He enjoys ballroom dancing and gardening. steveb@sfs-md.com
Mary R Gray, CPA Business Advisor   maryg@sfs-md.com Mary Gray is a graduate of Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, WV with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with major in Accounting and minor in Computer Science. She maintains her CPA in the state of Maryland.  She comes to us with a vast background in various industries:  hotel administration, public accounting, cable industry, risk management, food service management, accounting systems support, real estate accounting and research & development.  She has worked for or with small firms to major corporations.  She is married with no children but enjoys her 4 adorable cats.  She resides in Boyds, MD.  She has been a friend of the Smith family for over 25 years.
Barbara Heverley Payroll Supervisor Barbara earned her B.S. in Accounting at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD.  She started at Smith Financial Services several years ago, took a short break to enjoy some time with her beautiful grandchildren, and returned to us in 2003 to take on the position of Payroll Manager.  In addition to her full-time position at Smith Financial, Barbara serves as the Treasurer of her church and is involved in the Frederick community.  In her free time, Barbara loves sewing, learning to quilt with her church group, and playing with her four wonderful grandchildren. barbarah@sfs-md.com
Cindi Knapp Office Manager Cindi was born and raised in the beautiful state of Maryland.  She earned her degree in Paralegal Studies from Villa Julie College, presently Stevenson University, and worked for several law firms in the Baltimore area.  In 1982, she married a Naval Officer and has lived throughout the US.  They have two children and a daughter in law.  She volunteers as a puppy sitter for the Guiding Eyes for the Blind and enjoys spending her summers with her family at their house in Black Hills, South Dakota.  Cindi joined the SFS team in 2005. cindik@sfs-md.com
Mary Ann Marcantonio Administrative Assistant Mary Ann was born and raised in the beautiful Hudson Valley of New York and in 1987 moved to Maryland with her husband and three children.  After raising her children, she entered into the jewelry industry as a buyer and regional sales manager for the Northeastern part of the country for a major retailer.  After 15 years of retail she looked for something that kept her closer to home.  Mary Ann is a volunteer with the American Red Cross and served as a shelter manager in Mississippi for 4 weeks during Katrina.  She is a disaster volunteer for Frederick County and is a coordinator for local blood drives.  Her free time is spent spoiling her three beautiful Grandchildren, Jack, Emma and Sophie.  Mary Ann joined the SFS in 2009.  maryannm@sfs-md.com
